New Call-to-action

Happy World IP Day!

Today, Thursday April 26th is officially World Intellectual Property Day, something we’re all for celebrating!

What, exactly is World IP Day you ask? Well technically April 26th, 1970 is the birthday of WIPO (the World Intellectual Property Organization) or more specifically the day that the WIPO convention came into force, however since 2000 it has also become a day to celebrate innovation, creativity and how both are supported and fostered through intellectual property.

Activities are taking place across the globe to facilitate discussion and appreciate for how IP contributes to the ecosystem of creativity and innovation that helps shape our future, across all industries. The IP Day Facebook page provides a comprehensive list of international events, while the Licensing Executives Society has organized a series of events in North America called “Around the World with LES”.

For a fun look at some of the annual themes and posters over the years, check out WIPO’s IP Day archives. We’ve included a few of our favorites in this post, from 2003, 2007 and 2009 – can you tell which is which?

The theme of this year’s IP Day is celebrating ‘Visionary Innovators’, from artists and musicians such as Rembrandt and Miles Davis to scientists and inventors like Louis Pasteur and the Wright brothers.  Steve Jobs is of course a very prominent innovator who’s left a bold mark on our current culture, who are some other innovators who’ve made a recent contribution to today’s world? Leave your favorites in the comments!
